I waited until I was done bleeding the first time. You know you bleed til you think your gonna die. After that 3 weeks, my next period I wore tampons again. But if you can put one in and it's comfortable then you probably could wear one for a couple of hours. I don't think it would hurt that much. Ask a doctor. I was having intercourse about 3 weeks after birth. That's how I knew I could wear a tampon okay. And always bring plenty of spares :)

If you had an episiotomy or tearing I wouldn't go swimming until the stitches disolve, about 6 weeks. If you have ever gotten clorine in an open wound you'll know what I mean. If you did not have any stitches you may be able to go in sooner. I know that after I gave birth I bleed and discharged very heavily for the first month. But everyone is different. I would definetly talk to your dr first though. I have heard that wearing a tampon too soon after birth makes you more susseptable to toxic shock syndrome even if you wear the tampon for short periods of time. Good luck!

Wow, well atleast 6 weeks after getting birth you need time to heal... As far a leaking/dischard in the pool your vaginal has a "sealing" like feature when it's submerged in water...So, that shouldn't really be a problem... Was your hubby in the delivery room? If he was chances are he wouldn't be grossed out by you in the pool without a tampon.

It would be very much dependent on your birthing experience generally...for instance, did you tear or require a relatively large episiotomy?
Most concerns regarding vaginal intercourse, submerging in water {especially public used pools/chlorinated} & wearing of tampons...stems from an avoidance of possibly introducing bacteria or other foreign substances into a vagina that likely has endured some degree of trauma.
...avoiding potential issues such as infection {P.I.D and the like}.
I would suggest you discuss the issue with the person most likely to know the details of your birthing experience as well as or better possibly than even you know it...your O.B. GYN.
Have a nice Summer and "Congrats" on the expansion of your family...your life will never be the same, it only gets better from here. ^_^.

Do not use anything not prescribed by your doctor in your vagina until you have your postpartum visit with your doctor.
You are not healed properly yet and if you introduce a tampon or swimming into the mix you may cause yourself to have a vaginal or worse yet, cervical infection.
No tampons, No SWIMMING until you see your doctor.
If it's hot in August, take a cool shower, drink some cool drinks, or sit in the A/C or shade.
I'm sure the hospital or facility where you had your baby gave you discharge instructions. I'm SURE they said "NOTHING IN THE VAGINA FOR 6-8 WEEKS POSTPARTUM".
Get it..that means nothing, no intercourse, no tampons, no douching, nothing.

I would wait until your first normal period to use a tampon. This will give your body time to "snap" back into it usual routine. I did after both of my children's birth. I hope that helps. If not ask you doctor.

When I had my children, my doc told me to wait until after my post partum check-up. It is kind of in the same rule of thumb as having sex. They say wait 6 wks. Besides, a tampon may actually cause discomfort, especially if you tore or had an episiotomy.
