There are no good freeware realtime Spyware and Adware softwares.
But you can install Ad-ware Personal Edition and Spybot Search and Destroy. But remember to update the definitions and run a scan atleast once a week.
These 2 are the best to catch spyware and adware but they dont protect in real time. When you run a scan they will find them and clean them.

I like Windows Defender and Advast Windows defender can get rid of your spyware problems and adware. Also Advast monitors ABSOLUTLY EVERYTHING, that involves the internet. And yes the Home version is free!!! And trust me it will let you know when there a bad email or download. I have advast on all of my computers.

AVG also has a good spyware program that is free. Actually, the first 30 days you receive automatic updates and real time protection. After that, the program is still very functional - however you have to update and scan manually.
Spybot Search and Destroy is another free program - manual updates - but real time protection and immunization.

You need to install: ONE Anti-virus (AVG free), ONE Firewall (Zone Alarm free), and Anti-spyware tools like: Windows Defender, Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster and cCleaner (free, use all 5 regularly).
Google for them, install them and learn how to use (use the Help TAB).
