I am 47, and now I know that to be happy you don't need money, you don't need power, you don't need beauty, and you don't need brains. You need to be a very pleasant and friendly person and life will become better.

For a lot of people, they set their sights on a long term goal. Maybe it's partner in the law firm, maybe it's neurosurgeon, maybe it's best-selling author.

At any rate, goals are a great motivator, but many times people forget about life on the way to their goal.

If it takes 20 years to reach that goal, and during that time you've either negelected or not started a family, and have little to no friends because you've been working 15 hours a day for 20 years, even if you win, you lose.

Life, and happiness in particular is not about the end result; after all the real end result is death. Life and happiness is about the journey. Savoring those small moments of when your daughter takes her first step or says her first word. Seeing a good friend through hard times, spending time with your parents before they die, etc.

Have goals, by all means, just don't forsake happiness in the achievement of those goals or it will ring hollow in the end.

The secret of happiness is not caring about stuff that has nothing to do with you. A lot of people stress the heck out over life in general and most of the stuff that they get stressed over has nothing to do with them directly thus bringing sadness and unhappiness into their life. I live a pretty happy life because I have learned not to care.

happiness doesnt have a secret. It is simple.....acceptance....if you accept the people around, ur situation, ur friends, and mainly urself.....then u wont have a problem....Then the next step is never giving up....cuz if u give up hope, will, and love then ur just going be the loser...and that doesnt help boost happiness.....
Happiness is what you do for yourself.....
Life's a roller coaster with many ups n downs, so open ur arms, scream and enjoy the ride! Exits are on ur left....

The spiritual faith based answer is to Know, Love and Serve God in this life so you can live with Him forever in the next.

With that in context - seek to become a fully actualized human being. Become the greatest you that you are capable of becoming. Don't seek to be someone else - you can only become 2nd best at that. Find a way to live a life of integrity - to be truly happy your life and actions must reflect your beliefs - the is called integrity (talking the talk and walking the walk.) And finally, explore. learn, laugh, share. Listen more than you speak, give more than you take, chose your friends carefully and keep them close, judge not, and love lots.

There is no one true way to happiness.
Some things I've found that help are:
~Find the things that you enjoy and surround yourself with them as often as possible.
~Take the consequences that come from your decisions while reminding yourself of why you made that decision.
~Remember that nobody else can judge you fairly because they don't know everything about you.
~Try to take everything in the best way possible without ignoring the fact that it could be bad.
~Use your mistakes as a learning experience; don't beat yourself up for doing something wrong if you didn't know better at the time but learn to know better.
~Find something you like about yourself that's not based on anyone else and hold onto that.
And the most important one:
Accept yourself as who you are, accept that you can change what you want and you can keep what you want but no matter what you change or keep, you are still yourself and you are still a wonderful person.

I think it is different for everyone and can be different in what ever place you are in your life.

I think for me it is a combination of things. I treat all life with respect which leaves me with no guilt. If my family or I are not given the same respect in return I accept that I can't change others and move on, even with family. I won't cut them out I just don't seek them out.

I do everything intentionally, if I am going to do something, anything I give it my all.

I put myself first when I need to and I put others first when they need it.

I recognize my faults and try to work on them and try to give my mate a break because although I like to think so he isn't perfect either.

All of these things plus leave me with a sense of pride and that allows me to enjoy my children and mate a little more because I do the best I can.

God I feel like I am tooting my own horn but I am just trying to better myself.

Secret of happiness is balance of mind which is peace of mind which comes from the ability to accept unfavourable results, which capability can only be earned by total detachment from egoistic desires and expectations which is almost impossible, although we can minimise such desires and expectations through humility and repetitive reminding of oneself as to how small and minuscule one really is in comparison to this great universe and its vast time span.

Pardon me for that long sentence, but I wanted to reveal it all in one go!!!!

The secret is to simply love all that is, and to take life less seriously, and enjoy what you currently have. See the world through the right eyes, and you will see that there is nothing to fear but fear itself.
