There has always been a greedy club in this country, i think on the whole Blair, via Brown has given more people a slice of the action. I'm comfortable now anyway. As for violence. Who can be sure. It gets worse, or seems to each year, depending on where you hear the facts of course. Violent crime goes up as other crime goes down, but it happens in other countries too. I think 1 thing we could do, is to get back to teaching proper respect in the home. As parents we are not allowed to smack our children, but 99% of us were punished in this way, and there was a lot less violence when we were kids. And im only going back 25 years. I feared my dad, but also had the utmost respect for him. That was proper dicapline. Respect for everyone. Kids now know they cant be walloped or grounded or kept back after school etc, and they do as they please as a result. It all starts in the home. Thats where we need to teach our kids not to be violent Mick

Sadly yes. I would like to blame the Blair Gang but in fairness I can not, The problem was there. There is no quick fix so a government initiative is not appropriate. What is needed is a slow step by step change in attitude of all of us.
" It's nothing to do with me" attitude is not good enough, we have to show and believe that as we mess things up for other people we also mess it up for ourselves, be it graffiti, litter, constant foul language etc

Defenitly more violent, kids stabbing each other, kids stabbing teachers, muggings, 'tough on crime' utter crap. Black on black stabbings and shootings. Its far worse. Discipline has gone out of the window. Prisons aren't deterents anymore. We are far to soft. Whats the answer? I don't know. Bring back caning at school. If someone tells you off for doing something wrong, its hardly a deterent is it, if someone gives a you a good whack for doing something wrong and it hurts, 9 times out of 10 you won't do it again will you? Just a thought. Don't give that crap about being mentally scarred for being canned at school. You should have behaved shouldn't you!

Anyone remember Blair's boasting he would be 'tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime'. I appreciate the media blow everything up but in the past few years there has been an increase in crime. Of course this government have tried every trick in the book to convince people crime is on a downward trend but the truth is that is going up. As for greed just look around you in the shops and in the streets and you'll see examples every day.

It started with Thatcher in her worshipping the almighty dollar above all other things.
Blair has done little to change that attitude. He may have even encourage greed by allowing the property market to go through the roof.
On violence Blair is definitely to blame, thugs and criminals have no fear or respect for the law, the police or society generally. He was in charge, he had the power and he has refused to seriously tackle the problem. He just keep trying to stem gaping wounds in our society with plasters!

I would say that it is more violent - that is because we are so soft on crime there is almost no punishment. For instance, if a group of teenagers jump on an innocent person and literally beat them to death (it happens frequently in some towns), those teenagers will get off scott free or, worst get something like 18 months. To me that is cold blooded murder and they should be banged away for life. I think we need to adopt the American penal system - hard line punishment. I really don't care whether it works for the criminal or not, the important thing is to get them off the streets. That's the think over here, the criminals have the rights and the victims have none.

Rearding greed, well it's not a bad thing to wanting to aspire - it's not greed.

Yes.Maggie Thatcher started the me me society,Blair continued along the same path.
Blair has ruined this country with his softly ,touchy feely policies. The result is ,when a crime is committed there are no resources for the victim to have justice served,or seen to be served.

No, I don't think so, if you'd seen the gang warfare of the late 50's / 60's you might agree.
People have always been greedy, it's an unfortunate part of human nature.
