They're starting already!

I agree with some of the other answers, it would start a tit for tat war. The reason Zara couldn't star you is cos you're questions haven't posted. I tried to star some of Honesty bf questions but it would only let me star the ones that had posted.

If they allowed that it might also be a good Idea to add a spot where where a person could make a BRIEF comment on why they rated the way they did to the answers given...It might also slow down some of the people who are just giving a thumbs down to be jerks...a LOT of people hide behind that keyboard!

Update:
After reading some of the other answer's I had an idea that might work better...at the top of the page in any section (like politics)...what if they just had a list of the top 10 bad rater's ...then everyone would know who the biggest offender's were without knowing specifically if they rated you! a little section where you could see who had a high amount of hate mail reported etc...Maybe the rest of us could cull out the bad eggs in ANY party! wouldn't it be nice if you could block a specific user(one who doesn't really answer anything but just spews hate) from answering your question or other wise rating or contacting you too, might help with the people on a mission to get you deleted or just harass you for their own personal reasons! just a thought.

Hmmm... Might be!

I like YouAsked's reason for making them visible, though!

But I especially liked the suggestion that the questions themselves be subject to voting thumbs up or down as opposed to just stars.

On the surface a star for a question seems nice, but it doesn't accurately indicate the opinion a poster has of the question since it is also a way to flag the question for other posters in his/her contacts to review.

Maybe Y!A could come up with separate ratings for the questions... Perhaps a star or thumbs-up if you really like it, a question mark if you just want to flag it for your contacts to consider, and a thumbs down if you think it's excessively biased, not really a question, or so poorly written it's confusing--man, are there a LOT of those out there!

Personally, I'd give this question of yours a thumbs up and a question mark to encourage further input. :)

surely it should not matter who gave you the thumbs down, it is only their opinion. I f you don't like their opinion you can't change it . Perhaps the solution is to be more selective with your own questions & answers. If it makes you feel better you can give this the thumbs down. Maybe this will be the worst rated answer ever,I will not lose any sleep over it. Cheer up Emma it's only a bit of banter.

No, I agree with the first answer, it would get personal. I do think that they should bring back being able to give a question a thumbs up or down not just a star.

No, you'd just end up getting annoyed with the thumbs-downers. I think it would be a good idea though to earn points for thumbs up on your answer and lose points for thumbs down.

Then you'd have people who are immature and turn their anger into focused rage -- hell bent on giving you a thumbs down for every question you answer because you gave them a thumbs down 2 years ago.

it would probably lead to retalliation- but I have seen where one person has a thumbs up, and everyone else has a thumbs down (regardless of how good other answers might have been)

Maybe not who, as that could lead to peopoe kicking off... but perhap why - a small space of like 30 characters to say (anonymously) why they did/didnt like it.
