Couple days ago, and it was in the same place is always is, *regardless* of the time of year.

Every night - same place. Its the 'Guiding Light' - the one star that appears to not move throughout the night because the earth's axis lines up closest to it.

The best way to find it is to first locate the Big Dipper.

If you follow the 2 stars that make up the right side of the bucket 'north' (tilt your head back) - the very next star you see (in that line) is Polaris - the North Star.

I live close to a city, so it isn't as bright as it is elsewhere due to light pollution..
