Vinyl Stickers Have you seen them Advertizements that wrap the entire car? 3M makes clear rock chip protector that can be painted on. My friend makes designes custom color shifting flames and his computer plotter cuts them out.

You can always use a hammer and chisel and dig a permanent design into the metal.
