All types of files exist in linux. To see a directory you use the list command "ls"

If you look at a linux directory indeed the fist letter of all files which are directories is a "d" but other than that they are files.

There are commands (for operations) like directory operations and files (for everything stored) Not sure exactly what you are asking.

Your question makes no sense to me. I'm sat here on a Linux machine, and only a small number of my directories begin with the letter d. What is the point you are trying to make? Are you looking at the output of some particular command and have forgotten to mention that to us?
