I have a 2006 Pontiac G6 and the battery died. After I jumped it, the check engine light came on.

The check engine light means there is a problem code available, which can be displayed with the proper diagnostic equipment, designed to read the code from the car. But just because there is a problem code doesn't mean the problem is something that really matters. It might have been something temporary.

Actually a low voltage related code could have been set. But get it checked at the dealer or Auto Zone. Write down the code P0888 it will look like that. And there is about eight lines of freeze frame data try to write that down too. Freeze data is what the computer saw at the time of the incident. Some time if the computer does not see the problem 30 ingnition cycles the code will go away.

The warning light comes on any time the voltage is lower than standard. It may go back out soon, if there is no problem in the charging circuit.
