Friend, it all depends upon what you define as "evil" . This will vary from people to people, race to race , religion to religion, caste to caste. So, we cannot generalise at all. Our ancestors , in their wisdom , did understand this and drew up certain way of Life , called rightly the sanathana dharma. or the principle of Living. Outside of this dharma was considered not good and some were classified as evil.

Many of us have our own definition of eveila dn, thus, justify to ourselves our action. We donot call it eveil but others will call it evil. So, what shall we do?

Secondly and more importantly, the concept of God and "karma theory" are far beyond an average mind. . But we all know the so called does not punish the eveil person immediately as would , say , law. So , we can get away with eveil. "Who knows what I will be after my death? What does it matterafter my death? So I will do what i want." is the approach to life. If there is no fear of God there is no fear of man also.

The bitter consequences that you are talking about is unknown.

Every human being is born with three qualities
(1) Swatya
(2) Rozo
(3) Tomo
When quality TOMO covers Rojo ans Swatya the tendecies of doing evil rises up.
In other words we can say all human being have two qualities

The problem of evil stems from human perception. There's never been a person in history who actually thinks to themself "man, I am sooo evil!" People do evil things because they have convinced themselves that they were right.

Consider a rapist, he never thinks to himself "man, wouldn't be great if I just went out and hurt somebody, today?" he always rationalizes "She was asking for it!" The rapist has a view point that what he does is right, on the basis that he believes it to be so, therefor everyone else should sacrifice themself to him. Including those girls who need to be taught a lesson (or so he thinks.) Because he has taken his rightness as faith, convincing him otherwise is virtually impossible.

Now consider a more ominous example of evil.

Therefore, I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of our Creator. By fighting off the Jews, I am doing the Lord's work.

~Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf

Adolf Hitler in our culture is widely and rightfully regarded as a monster. However, to the day he died, Hitler had never doubted that he himself was saving humanity. What was the basis of his belief? his faith in himself. The Nazi propaganda machine explained his belief perfectly. "If the leader wishes 2+2 to be 5, then it will be so."

What is the similarities between Adolf Hitler and the rapist? Lets recall

A: Both believed they were doing the right thing

B: Both based their beliefs on faith. Faith, by nature, is neither verifiable, nor falsifiable, therefor there is nothing that anyone else can do or say to convince them otherwise.

C: Both believed that because they were doing the right thing, that other people need to do what they tell them to do, by force if necessary.

Because doing the right thing is something every single person strives to do, our surest way of knowing that we are not commiting evil acts is to minimalize the use of faith in our lives, if not eradicate it entirely. In the immortal words of Thomas Jefferson:

"Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear."

For the same reason all of our Jails are filled to capacity.

Interestingly enough people think "I can get away with it", "I won't be caught".

People know they are going to die. Their parent, or loved ones die, they read it in the newspapers in the Obituary columns. But they still feel as if they will live forever. It is not a REALITY to them.

If you, or I knew that in a couple of hours we would die wouldn't we be petrified??? Really just think about it. You, or I would live our whole life differently. Everyone would. We would all be kinder, and more generous to one another.

To those who think evil has no consequences, see you at the accounting. Those people are the reason the world is caught up in its own destruction. Their ignorance of mans duality contributes to hatred in the world. Personally; people who love disorder will fall victim to their love. Its an indication of their inability to love others ( as they don't understand themselves, or are too self-centered to care!).

Ego compulsions are embedded at the body level and almost impossible to transcend because they become imprinted during brain/physical development as beliefs which control our thoughts, feelings and actions. They cannot be overcome, only eliminated when we eventually get bored with them. For some they are the sole option for stimulation and there is no incentive to overcome them. Karma.

Because we are often deceived by our ego-driven desires to believe that a good will ultimately result from our actions, or that we can evade responsibility, or that we have mis-apprehended an evil as a good.
