The gyroball credited to Dice-K is nothing more than a screwball used by many pitchers in MBL. The screwball moves in the opposite direction of a curveball. Dice-K is a right handed pitcher so the screwball will run back in to the hands of a right handed batter rather than break away from him which a curveball would do.

Eric is right, but in Japan they actually teach them how to throw this pitch, so while it's a mistake, it's actually a mistake done on purpose.

bob is right. It is what they call a back up slider. It is a slider that doesn't work. Most pitchers throw this, but by accident.
