why do you say it was over looks? have you never met someone and instantly felt the sparks fly? love at first sight i believe can be real but it is very rare. superficial relationships don't usually end up the way r+j's did. if it were superficial i think they would have parted ways when the going got tough.

It must have felt real for them. After all, the 'realness' of love is determined by the persons who feel it. For us, it may seem superficial, but for them, the ones who can feel it, it's real. Also, i think the fact that they're from rival families made them even more persistant in seeing each other. They wanted to know why they can't be together and why they felt that way to each other if they're supposed to be enemies.

Romeo and Juliet are kids. They are stupid and think they are in love. It's like anything you see on Dawson's Creek or whatever high school soap opera kids are watching these days, and like you see in every high school in America: teenagers don't know what love really is.
Besides, Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare's worst plays because it's so one dimensional: Romeo is an insipid whiner and Juliet wants an out.

I personally don't think it was true love at first sigh. It defenately seems more than a passionaby attraction. They both were too young to real know the meaning of love. After all, she was 14 years old, and he was 16 years old. At that age you still don't really know the inner you well enough, emotions control you more than logical thoughts.

They were idiots. Honestly, I'd set it down as hormones run amok. I think they did have something in common with regards to...not fitting into the worlds in which they lived, but other than that, they barely knew each other. They were both very mercurial characters, and way too easily convinced of something. All through the play they're jumping to conclusions about what's going to happen and threatening to kill themselves; self destructive. So maybe it felt so real to them because they really wanted to destroy themselves and their futures. If so, mission accomplished.

When a person is in love, it emanates to the outside making people look beautiful. Only two persons who are in love could understand this and sometimes people from the outside do not perceive what the two lovers see.

because teenagers are often blinded by their emotions and do not necessarily think rationally especially when it comes to a relatively new emotion like love
