Because he's a fool himself. And a liar. No, I don't think Iran has the capacity to reach Europe with a missle...yet. I think he also used North Korea as an excuse for the "needed protection". They supposedly don't have a weapon with that range either.

I've always wondered myself why it's ok for the US to develop nuclear power and nuclear weapons, but the US govt. doesn't want other governments to possess such capabilities. It's like saying "we can do it, but you can't".

Because he has this whole time. We are not at war with Iraq...We are at war with Iran and have been for years. Just because the battlefield is in Iraq does not mean the ultimate goal is not Iran. George Bush wants this missile defense in Europe because he knows Putin will vehemently oppose it. It would be able to be used against Russian missiles as well. He will strike a deal with Putin that Russia will put extreme pressure on Iran finally ending their pursuit of nuclear weapons. Without Russia's money the extremist terrorist supporting regime in Iran will be ruling a pro-western majority of people whilst on the verge of bankruptcy. Not a good position for the Iranian government to be in. They are already importing gasoline and taking social monies usually used to support their large population of unemployed young adults and throwing it at the pursuit or nuclear technology and terrorism. Iran will fall from within and probably has been the plan from day 1.

WMD's worked for him in Iraq and now he has found another scare tactic. I just hope the Europeans have the good sense to tell him to put his missiles where they would fit best. At best it could only be a front line defence for America and is a great thing to offer somebody you are calling a friend.
As for a defence against Iran that is utterly ridiculous at this time. If they even looked dangerous America could flatten them from where they are.
I just hope the Europeans are not that gullible and will turn down this rather dubious offer.

If you lived in Europe, would you want to be the person "hoping not" or "planning to react" if so? No one likes war or any talk about war. But, until the world forgets what war is, it's better to be safe and have as much protection as they/we/you can.

If they/we/you didn't have it, they/we/you would be very unhappy and turn against the US for not helping.

The problem with very very stupid people is that they don't know that they are much much dimmer than everyone else.
They think everyone is just as stupid, and will believe anything they are told.
Sad for them; except in the case of American presidents- they have ensured that the majority of their people are, if not actually stupid, at least woefully un-informed and short on education. This means they can say stuff like this and get away with it.

If the missiles have the range to reach europe the defences will be useless, because the missiles will be in europe before they are activated, therefore these missiles are to defend the US exclusively.
