Because It is most wise. If you were able to understand a little of exactly 'what gravity does', you'd know more than Einstein did, when he attempted to solve the 'Unified Field Theory'. He left it unsolved. Gravity seems to pervade all things in a mysterious way.

There are just a handful of forces in nature that make physics what it is. These include gravity, electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force, the weak nuclear force. The discipline of physics can't explain why gravity exists, it is simply a force of attraction between two bodies that have masses M and m with gravitational constant G and separated by a distance r. Given by:
F = GMm/r^2. It is certainly necessary to sustain existence as we know it. Without gravity, the earth would would abandon its orbit around the sun and continue in a straight line. Or if a person were to jump he would continue an upward flight and not come down.

Science can describe phenomena but it can never say why.
Just be glad there is such a thing--not everyone takes to weightlessness.
