If you go thru the Repair Process you will not loose any files. However if you go thru the Reinstallation Process all files on the computer which you created and all softwares on the computer which you installed will be Lost and deleted Permanently

As long as after the F8, you select the "R" for repair, you should not lose your files. All that does is replace the esssential system files for Windows itself. It will not format the hard drive, delete any other files, or uninstall any other programs.

It should be safe for you to do that.

If as you are doing the reinstall, after the F8, it ask you if you want to format or partition the hard drive, stop at that point and reboot. You missed the "Repair" option.

the best way is to replace and or repair teh file systems using sfc.. heres what you do:
hit start
hit run
tye in cmd
type in sfc/scannow ht enter poof~
and let it do its job
* note you will avhe to insert the O/s Disk but absolutely nothing is lost this way and theres no mistakes when done

cheers~
