Adobe Acrobat Reader does not recognize the jpeg format, it is intended for reading pdf's. You need an image viewing program to view jpegs. If you do not have one they can be opened, but not edited, with any web browser. Right-click 'Open with..'

Adobe Reader can't, and never has been able to, open JPG files directly.
Windows, by default, opens JPG files using the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. When you install other photo programs, they often change the file associations in Windows. Adobe Photoshop Album Starter 3.0 is an example.
To change the File Association, right-click on any JPG and choose "Open With". Then click on "Choose Program..."
Choose the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, then Check the "Always use this program to open this kind of file." Box, then OK.
Now, Windows will use that app every time you double-click on a JPG, as it did when first installed.

Hmmm...not sure, but Adobe Reader is for opening pdf DOCUMENT files, not JPEG files. Try right-clicking the file, and choosing "Open With" from the menu. You should be able to choose a program, such as Paint or Windows Picture Viewer, to open a file. There should be a box that you can check to "always use this program to open files of this type" if you so desire. If you don't have a decent image viewing program on your computer, you can try this one:

Good luck!
