No, I think you should try to get at least 8 hrs. It is the time for your body to recharge and heal. If you constantly are only getting 5 hrs of sleep I think you will find you are sleepy and less productive/sharp during the day. You also need sleep to help your immune system function, you may have a tendency to get sick more often.

What do you think? The reason 8 hrs of sleep is recommended is that each sleep cycle is about 3 hrs, and this is when you are rejuvinated & repaired. Getting 8 hrs means you get time for 2 cycles and the time to get from one to the other as well as the time to fall to sleep & wake. If you sleep 5 hrs, you're only getting 1 rem cycle if that (if restless, none) and that leaves your body vulnerable. Some of us need 3 cycles at least a couple days a week.

Hope it helps...

i would just like to add that ignore idiots who say that you definitely need 8 hrs. I dont know why they think that everyone can be lumped together. I usually sleep 4-5 hours a night and I've never had any health problems...ever.

So the amount of sleep you need depends entirely on you.

If you get used to it and get some quality sleep it's enough but for me I'll go with 6 hours.
