As an Englishman, it never ceases to amaze me how sophisticated the American sence of humour is.Many times on this site i have encounterd first hand how Americans use wit and charm to quash an argument instead of resorting to insults and childish name calling.
Hats off to you Americans

As an Englishman, you suffer from an inferority complex. Your obsession with the US and Americans is quite telling.
It's flattering that you spend so much time thinking about us. The UK rarely enters my mind at all, I almost forget you are there. Guess you people aren't all that significant, really.

Why have Americans got such a great sense of humour?
I would imagine that the major source of this country's humor derives from it's origin, the "motherland" if you will. Now while we never quite developed that exquisitely refined taste for transvestism that can be found in so many "sophisticated" British comics' repertoires, we have managed in many instances (other than by virtue of our Presidents) to deliver a great deal of laughter across the globe.
It is certainly understandable that a lesser culture might ask "How could it be that such comedic brilliance could spawn from fragments of the dried up and drastically over pretentious shortcomings of the United Kingdom (a place that has touted such blowhards upon the world as Sir Winston Churchill)!?" Yet this in fact does appear to be the case!
All I can say in retort to your words of praise for our genius in the area of comedy is "cheers to the Queen, for giving us not only a desire, but a very good reason to laugh as well!"

Because they don't take life as seriously as the English. For that matter, neither do the French, Spanish, Bolivians and just about every other nation on earth. Apart from the U.S. state of California of course. Bye the way, what other lunatic Politically Correct nonsense are they going to inflict the world with next? Ithink I'll make that a question.

Thank you ! Lets see why do Americans have a great sense of humor? Well I guess I could say this. I was engaged to a girl from England and between her sometimes harmless but sarcastic wit and my tongue in cheek remarks we were often ask to"just stop" at parties before ever one ended up on the floor laughing uncontrollably. Anyway... in the world we live in a sense of humor is a nice thing to have... Ever one should have or develop one.

Ha ha,its so true, yankees are quite thick, but some of their films are funny and Simpsons and Seinfeld, however most of their comedys are crap, the jokes so obvious ,made for imbeciles.Anyway the queen rules,George Bush is just a ham actor, and why do yankees wear padding to play rugby and drink weak sissy girlie beer?

We can't help it..... our mother's didn't love us.... we're socially handicapped.... it's all that programming we get from birth that the known universe revolves around the US.
And then there's always the issue of what we did 50 years ago and now we think the entire world owes us for all eternity!
Not all Americans are mean hate filled vessels.... some us us actually appreciate the cultural differences between the US and other countries and peoples.

Many great comedians have hailed from Britain, you're not one of them. Your attempt at sarcasm is about as subtle as a train wreck.
