With Fawlty towers being TVs greatest comedy and A fish called Wanda one of the best comedy films, is John Cleese the greatest British comedian. Throw in monty Python and it is hard to argue. Steve Coogan is good as is Rowan Atkinson, but just not as good.

As far as pure story-telling goes. there was a Brisitish comedian named Dave Allen who had a "sit down" as opposed to "stand up" show in the late 70's, early 80's. He was great. Also, Benny Hill was better than John Cleese, ask your dad about that one. I think the Monty Python movies were better than the TV show. Especially "The Holy Grail".

Yeah, he's extremely funny.

Nowadays a lot of people don't know who he is - but his programmes are classic! Watching him play the crazy Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers is hilarious, and of course, the legendary Monty Python is too.

I was glad to see him as Nearly Headless Nick in the Harry Potter films!

"Basil!" "Yes, dear?"

He was my favourite in Monty Python (and I liked them all). The Ministry of Silly Walks, Life of Brian ("right then, who said Jehovah?" ... "you did!"), The Parrot Sketch, and my all-time favourite, The Argument Sketch ("I'm here for an argument. No you're not!") - how can you top that?

He's at the top...right up there with Peter Cook, Dudley Moore and Peter Sellers.

Is someone just not understanding the reference?
Or is it one of those humorless, thick American gits?
Guess it's an IQ thing? Gimme a break.
