Since both you and your grandmother are experiencing the same thing, that does come across as odd. What floor are the bedrooms on? Is there a basement right under your rooms? Are your rooms right over the furnace? Do you live in a busy apartment building and maybe a lot of foot traffic is causing the shaking? Just as an experiment, why not fill a few glasses with about 1 cup of buttermilk and place around the house and it your rooms. If the shaking seems to occur all over the house, you'd know it by the streaking of the buttermilk against the glass. If it only happens in the bedrooms, why not set up voice recording devices and see if you can't pick up anything? And do some research on the home and the previous occupants.
