It's not just preference, my friend. It is also how, where, when, and with whom, even when you do have the gender issues nailed down. Pretty much all societies have rules about all these things, written and unwritten, and those who break them end up in big trouble.

I would think that why this is should be pretty clear, myself. People like sex. A lot. It is a powerful motivating factor on a variety of levels. It transcends intelligence, culture, geography, and just about anything else you can think of. So any time you get a few people together, there is probably going to be sex occurring.

Now think about what the whole point of a society is. It is to try and work and live together. You can't really have society without rules... just chaos. Even if the only rule is that you do what the really strong guy says.

Given that societies have rules and that sex is important to people, it almost seems like a no-brainer that there are going to be rules about sex. I'm sure the first really burly tribeman said that all the women were his and anyone who thought otherwise (even the women) could expect a beating. Modern rules are a little less draconian in most cases, but no less prevalent.

So why do people try to control sex? Because they like it!

Other countries have different constitutions or laws of the land, which dictates more or less how everyone is allowed to behave.

Read your country's constitution. If you're happy with how it defines you, stick with it. If not, write your legislator- its an uphill battle from there, either way, the outcome will turn out to be exhausting.

But personally, inherent in all of us is the desire to label things, keep things in proper order, define things, add a column here and there, shoes go here, plates, pots and pans there-categorize which class, phylum or familia etc., etc.,

If you ask them, they'll say there's nothing wrong with homosexuality,or metro sexuality (however they define it) What they are worried about is the behavior associated with the preference. Because truly, there are risks.

One shouldn't worry about what they say, people are just like that often reacting with a misinformed mind.

I know about this guy who loved homosexuals, (partied all night with prostitutes at a bar and shielded an whore who was about to get beaten to death.) just like anyone else. he didn't try to ask him to change, didn't even try to control him, didn't ask so many questions.
He said simply I accept you just the way you are.

@ SugarFrog46: that's a pretty terrible thing to say. There are plenty of emotionally healthy homosexuals who live happy, fulfilled lives with their beloved partner. Who are you to tell them their preference is a mental illness?

There is only one group of people in this world who actually make a big stink about homosexuals

Christians.

That's right. The religion that supposedly preaches love and brotherhood is the only one that is murderously intolerant of homosexuals. (Well ok, I wouldn't put it above Islam to persecute them, but then again, they're both Abrahamic Religions.) I've never heard of a Buddhist tying a homosexual to the back of his truck and dragging him to his death. While the rest of the world recognizes that what people do in the privacy of their own bedrooms is nobody's business, Christians are the ones who continually come up with excuse after excuse to hate this demograph of people. Some of my favorites include:

"It's not natural"
(So what? neither are toasters!)

"It hurts the psychological growth of a child"
(like there's never been a neglectful man and woman couple in history...)

"God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of the fags!"
(yes, and we all know Jesus hates those dastardly Gay people too...)

"it's a mental disease"
(How arrogant is this statement? Like anyone that doesn't completely agree with you has a "mental illness")

"It's a psychological error"
(oh yeah, like finding love and spiritual fulfillment is most certainly what we shouldn't be doing!)

Simply put, it's politically acceptable racism. Thankfully we appear to be moving out of that barbaric mindframe that tells us that Gay people are evil and need to round up and sent to concentration camps. And yes, this has happened before. Homosexuals were among the many demographs Hitler sent to the concentration camps. And just in case we are forgetting Hitler's religious preferences:

"Therefore, I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of our Creator. By fighting off the Jews, I am doing the Lord's work."
~Mein Kampf

Won't hear that in a sunday school class

Because when people die they do crazy things and have crazy emotions like, I'm going to date girls the rest of my life (if you're female and a potential boyfriend has died) and I honestly believe that homosexuality is sometimes perceived to be a result of someone's personal guilt or mental illness. They think the person is punishing themselves, or doesnt think they are attractive enough to date a member of the opposite sex, or has trouble adjusting to societal standards. When in fact, it is arrogant people who have a difficulty adjusting to the fact that people love people period.

With rare exceptions, humanity desires very mundane circumstances. They gain comfort from the repetitive regimen of life. When situations and people do not fit into this schema, it causes distress. They cannot handle a broad spectrum of differences.

Because a lot of people [and especially church] love to have power and control other peoples life.. I guess these countries you are referring to have few educated people. Therefore education is really important!

Originally human beings needed to reproduce so homosexuality was frowned on. Some day heterosexuality will be frowned on, because now people need to stop reproducing.
