A Laptop would be atleast double the price than the Desktop of similar configuration.

Thats the imp point.

Few things that can add are

1. Laptops are not good to work for long hours due to their cramped keyboards.
2. Laptops cannot be used for Days together like desktops. They will over heat and burn.

A) Desktops are cheaper to make and are therefore less expensive for the consumer when compared to a notebook
B) Desktops can have more ports, hard disk sapce, etc in them due to their size
C) some people don't need p[ortablilty and want a good computer with a big screen and wireless mouse and keyboards
D) Desktops run off AC power, while notebooks runn off batteries that can heat up quickly and cause damage to the computer or the user
E) desktops can have better fuctionality for schools, workplaces, etc (eg they are harder to break/steal)
there are more reasons, but I can't really think of any more! Hope this helps! :)

Laptops may be light and portable, but you can add alot more peripherals to a desk PC, and it can use more powerful CPUs and devices that would fry a laptop, and it's so compact that there's little room to add extra internal devices. Laptops often need to be docked to be able to use printers, and other peripherals, that need AC. Portables are more likely to be dropped, broken, stolen, or lost - and they cost more, of course...

If something on a desk PC breaks then you can usually replace it easily and inexpensively - how easy is it to fix or replace your laptop PC monitor, for instance? Can it even be fixed? Can you even find someone who knows how to fix it, or find parts -- or is it easier just to buy another expensive laptop?

laptop for convenient and striaght forward mobile business oriented processing and other communication... mehcanical component generates heat and need rooms to survive and be upgraded. a laptop is too compact and limited. a bulky pc with high end component can do wonders!
(i'm talking about stand alone processing not networking with a powerful host computer, home user tend to stream and edit their own movie, do graphical stuff, and alot of multitasking...)
