Well obviously you are asking this question because you disclosed your password to someone which is a big no-no. You must never give anyone your personal password because then it will always assumably be you who accessed your email account. I would change your password and all yahoo users are reminded to check their personal information to see if anything was changed. KEEP YOUR OWN PASSWORD. You can never prove that someone accessed your account. It will always fall back on you. I hope this helps.

I normally know this when I login in and there is no indication of new mail (or added mail) in my inbox and yet upon checking the inbox I realise new mail that I have not read/seen since the last time I opened my inbox. Thus someone will have read my new e-mails and then "Marked them as unread". This apparently does not not reverse Yahoo's count of "New" e-mails. Try it, mark all your e-mails in your inbox as "Unread" and see if you will receive notification of number of new e-mails in your inbox.

By the way this normally happens when I use someone else's PC and forget to log out.

You can't. Change your Password.
