A normal plane'll go something like 30,000 feet in the air. The height of an ipod has nothing to do with its performance. In fact, you could turn one on in the void of space.(However you wouldn't hear anything due to the lack of air in space) but aside from that it would work fine.

The only time you can't use an ipod on a plane is during liftoff and landing, I believe. But that is for a reason completely unrelated to altitude.

Yes everyone uses their iPods on planes. I have flown several times and have never heard not being allowed to use it.

yep should be fine. There are certain times during the flight (like take off and landing) that you are asked not to use it but other than that enjoy your music.
