Yes and no. I hope for the sake of your son that you will work this out amicably. However, she is only joining the Reserves...not active duty. She may get deployed and in that case you should get your son.

No. Unless there's evidence to show she's an unfit parent (and you'd have said so if she were), you'll be sharing custody.

Joining the military does not make her unfit. It does mean that you'll have your son while she's at boot camp and if she's deployed -- and it does *usually* mean that you won't pay child support while he's in your care full time.

You're going to need to stop looking at your ex like the enemy. She'll be someone you try to raise a happy, healthy child in parallel with until your son is an adult. Today is a good day to start.

I think that the Judge will decide what is best for the child at the time and in the long run. If she can't be a parent because she is away then it may help you get custody. You will know this woman for the rest of your life because you have a child together, please take that into consideration before you do anything.

Not necessarily. Her being in the military doesn't make her an unfit mother. The court will consider what is best for the child...not the child's parents and place the child where it is best.

It possibly will help you out on the long run... The thing I don't understand is why mothers go do these things when they have a child @ home. She should of thought of that before she had the baby. ( Not to say she's a bad mother )

I can only guess that since she's going to be gone, someone has to look after the child and, being the father and your there, it would be you.

You could probably get primary custody, but she will still be getting visitation regardless!
