this is going to sound terrible......but have you ever gone to a reservation? well, the money goes to the natives and it is certainly NOT used for the upkeep of the reservations.......in most cases the government builds all the homes, etc on the reservation and then once it and the money is handed over.....wel go have a drive through a reservation and you will see that unfortunately what was once a beautiful spot to live and raise children turns into a heap of junk, and run-down housing..............they go on about their native pride, but you wouldn't be able to tell that there is any pride when/if you see how they let things just go and don't taek care of their reservation.....................of course this is a generalization and not all natives are that way.....but from that example it certainly does make you wonder what happens to that money once given from the federal government to the native leaders. i am sorry my intention is not to offend anyone......i feel i can write this because anyone reading this can go to a reservation and see proff of what i am speaking of....it doesn't take but a little elbow grease to keep where you are living looking clean and nice.

In response to little miss coolioyaman. Not only do I live and work and raise my children who were born along with my self and my husband on a reservation. SHUT UP!
To answer your question. The federal government doesn't give money to Native leaders in America. The federal government pays the NATION for the use of our resources and goods as well as war crimes committed against our people since 1492.
This money is first of all not very much and is less each year as a lot of tribes are not only taking care of their own people they are paying for fire and police stations in there counties outside the reservations. Anyway these monies are for medical, education and land improvement.
