man, who can say with the Lakers these days, they almost missed the playoffs THIS year. I think if they'd lost about 3 more games they'd be out. But they were kicking butt during the first half of the season.
Will the superstar matter that much? Jermaine Oneal, Jason Kidd, whoever it is....how can we know they'll get along with Kobe? If history tells us anything, Kobe doesn't get along with other superstars. The Lakers had Gary Payton, Karl Malone, and Shaq all on the same roster and he managed to piss off all three of them.

Hey Daniel K,
i think the one thing everyone can say about the Lakers is that everything is unpredictable right now. If they trade Kobe than they most certainly will not make the playoffs because it'll be the start of mass rebuilding.
Kobe's recent media blitz puts them in a position where they must make some moves- and i think that the moves can only improve them (other than trading Kobe). How the heck Smush Parker is in the NBA i don't know and even starting Shamond Williams or Jordan Farmar is much better than Smush.
Kwame is very much on the trading block with his expiring contract- and though he's solid defensively, on offensive he has the worst set of hands ever.
i think the Lakers will need to get another superstar in a Jermaine O'Neal or Jason Kidd and that will improve the team. They also need new role players to fill in which should also help. They may not be amongst the West's elite- but they should hopefully put themselves in a position to be a bit more competitive and be one more missing piece which they hope to obtain in 2008 from being a top contender again.
If they don't make the playoffs next year you can almost bet that Kobe Bryant will be traded- and believe me- the Lakers are in big trouble if that happens.
Kindly,
Nickster

Boy, your off!!!! Kobe is the best and Buss is going to do anything and everything to get this team in the top 4! They would have been in the top 5 in the West if it weren’t for injuries all season long. Now, if they do trade Kobe, they would have to get someone good out of it and that will also help making the playoffs next year. I’m not saying they will win the Championship, I’m just pointing out the fact that this is a stupid statement on your part. The Clipps might not make it, but Kobe and the Lakers are good enough now to make it to the playoffs and will be better next year without any changes. You can’t change people and positions on guys and expect them to win a Championship, look at the Suns and San Antonio. Most of those guys have been playing there for years and the same position, unlike Odom going from SF to PF and Brown going from PF to C, and Luck from a bench guy to starting 5. That is too much for these young guys. The Lakers need to make changes and stay that way for about 3-4 year before winning another Championship. 1996-2000 was about 4 years wasn’t it and then a Dynasty was born!!!

The Lakers will still make the playoffs as a 7 or 8 seed. They're just not good enough right now to advance past the first round. As long as Kobe and Phil are around, the Lakers will make the playoffs.

Dumb Question! Kobe Bryant is the best to ever play the game... PERIOD! They started off last season on a tear because they were healthy, then they lost Lamar Odom for over half the season. At the same time they also lost Luke Walton, then around Christmas time, Vladamir Radmonovic breaks his leg snowboarding. If they were healthy throughout the whole season they would have been an easy 4th seed, or more!!!!! So i guarantee the playoffs next year, if they get a star PG or C i guarantee the Western Conference Finals, AND if they get both I GUARANTEE the Finals!!!!! (all assuming Kobe stays!!!!!)

The main problem will not be because of the Lakers miss most of their shots, but to incorporate those newly acquired starting players into triangle.

I don't know. It all depends on Kobe. If he does get traded i don't see them going nowhere next year. If Kobe does stay they should go. The reason they didn't go this year is because Kobe didn't start in the beginning of the season.

their one man show has gotten them to the playoffs the past few years
why would next year be any different?
Plus, they're bending over backwards to get Kobe someone reliable to help him.
i think they WILL be in the playoffs.
I don't really think it's much of a question, actually.

West a million Lakers- they are the protecting champ so i could comprehend them and supply them this one 2 Nuggets- a number of you could say the Spurs could be extra efficient yet they are able to have an entire three hundred and sixty 5 days with Chauncey and their team chemistry will boost 3 Spurs- With Jefferson here to shop the turning out to be older Spurs they are back in the event that they stay healthful 4 Portland- There are some rumors that Hedo could sign with them so they could be risky besides the fact that if he would not sign with them they have some extra adventure. 5 Jazz- Boozer and Okur are back optimistically they are able to stay healthful. 6 Hornets- it incredibly is notably plenty a toss-up between the Hornets and Mavs or Warriors 7 Mavericks- i think of they could be at 8 through fact Kidd could leave, yet like I stated its a toss up. 8 Golden State Warriors- we are back and if we live healthful we are notably risky. If we commerce for Amare we can be extra risky. back this could nicely be a toss up between 6,7,8. I quite have my Warriors at 8 i want to work out them play the Lakers. East a million. Cavaliers- even nevertheless I hate their guts i myself think of Shaq is going to cause them to extra efficient 2. Magics- Vince Carter will incredibly strengthen this team unquestionably 3. Atlanta- Jamal Crawfish will help this team, yet this commerce could additionally harm them purely time will tell. 4. Boston- each physique is returning and that that they had be healthful 5. Chicago- they come again and that i think of this could be a shocker at 5 6. Philadelphia- Elton sort coming back to me they are the two 5 or 6 7. Miami- shall we are hoping D-Wade can lead them back. optimistically he would not smash a nail and is out for the completed season 8. Washington- they are back. Gilbert, Foye, Miller, guy they have extremely some stars. i could positioned them at 7 yet i want to work out the Wizards finally beat the Cavs. So the matchups could be Lakers vs Warriors Cavs vs Wizards Nuggets vs Mavs Magics vs warmth Spurs vs Hornets Hawks vs 76ers Blazers vs Jazz Celtics vs Bulls
