Manny is the better all around hitter. Ortiz is clutch, but without Manny behind him, he doesnt get the fat pitches. Without them, he's pretty ordinary as you saw last year when Manny was out. I'm a Yankee fan, and even I know that Manny is one of the greatest hitters of all time.

Manny is already considered one of the better hitters of our time. For his career Manny will also end up with better numbers. Papi will be known more for his clutch hitting. In any situation with the game on the line you would look to Papi. Both are great hitters and both will end up with incredible careers. Though Manny is on the downside of his career, and still busts around .300 with 35+HR which is pretty scary, he is now overshadowed by the prowess of Papi, who seems to just get better and better. In essence Papi will probably be recognized as the better hitter because he does what he needs to do when it counts. Though you can argue for Manny because of the career he's had.

I would want manny... while Papi has been more clutch as of late, you cannot ignore the absolutely ridiculous numbers manny has put up over his career.. Manny was rated as the highest prospect in dominican history and was a first round pick of the indians in 1993 and has been producing ever since....
the reason papi is so clutch is becuase nobody wants to pitch to manny, so he will get a better shot... and he is still a great hitter...manny has just got him beat...

Manny is easily the better hitter of the two. Ortiz might have more power at this point, but Manny has been doing it longer and hits for a much higher average. Even theough Manny is the better hitter, I'd still want Ortiz up there in the clutch situations. He just has a nack for getting the big hit at just the right time.

Manny is the better hitter, but Papi is the better slugger. Manny will be regarded as the better hitter, but I would want Papi up because he has more of a chance of hitting a HR.

Papi, no doubt will be regarded as the better hitter, primarily because of all of his clutch hits in the postseason. Manny's legacy will be clouded by his antics like taking a bathroom break during the game, showing up late to everything, and his annual requests to be traded.

Manny is probably the better hitter, but the fans hearts are with Papi. When their careers are over, he is who we will be talking about regardless.
