Make some calls to lawn care or landscaping businesses in your area. Someone may take him on as a helper and, if so, he can learn from them. I've never heard of any courses, but the lawn care and landscapers might know if there are any.

Seriously, I saw a great documentary on landscape gardening tuition at Longleat, so a day out their could well be money well spent.
