Make some calls to lawn care or landscaping businesses in your area. Someone may take him on as a helper and, if so, he can learn from them. I've never heard of any courses, but the lawn care and landscapers might know if there are any.

My garden, tomorrow OK?
Seriously, I saw a great documentary on landscape gardening tuition at Longleat, so a day out their could well be money well spent.
