Core 2 Duo is easily the better peformer (Turion performs about like the old Core Duo), but as the previous poster said, for gaming the most important element for a laptop is what video chipset it comes with, and this is where most people get nailed because unlike a desktop you cannot change it afterwards.

The GPU has a much bigger impact on gaming performance than the CPU. Either the Turion X2 or Core 2 Duo will perform nicely with a good video adapter, but with a weak video adapter performance will suck, and no CPU can make up for that... You definitely want a GeForce Go 7600 or better- for ATI, Radeon X1600 or better.

Here's a site that sells some nice gaming notebooks:

there both good processors and have there ups and down i really trust the AMD ones but a really like the core Duo ones to they have been out for a little while and have worked most of the bugs out but i would prolly go with the Duo they have been out a little longer and the company has been around longer and it give it more creditbilty

If you like to play games on a laptop, you should consider first the GPU then the CPU. Because if you make a poor choice on the GPU, you are stuck with it. You would hardly notice the performance difference in games between the two cpu. Core2 Duo would excel in video encoding.

AMD Turion has it own class and Core 2 has it's own, for playing games with graphics AMD is good.
