and, hopefully, when maddie is found and returned to her parents, will they, for the 3 children's satbility and happiness give them privacy and, peace which the kids deserve or, will they, as they have vowed demand the kids be taken into care therefore destroying any chance of these kids growing up together as one happy family.

I really don't believe that there is ANYONE on this site who does not want Maddy back sage & well.

I'm sure that if she is found, there will be a big round of interviews, paper deals and a book. Sadly the McCanns do not strike me as the type who will fade away. But eventually they will disappear from public view.

But I just want to highlight your last point about the kids being taken into care - It is illegal BOTH IN PORTUGAL AND THE UK TO LEAVE KIDS OF THAT AGE ALONE. They should be brought to task over the matter. I would guess there would be a report by a social worker and then (in reality) a verbal slap on the wrist for them, rather than the kids being removed.

Following your logic, it is okay for kids to stay with parents who neglect or even abuse them on the grounds of 'well, you are destroying a family.'

There is also the issue of the remaining twins, which people are very concerned and upset about. Having lost Maddy, the twins seem to be passed on to a relative / stuck in a cresh while Kate & Gerry go off 'searching here & there'. They have not only lost their sister but seem to have lost their parents too.

Your living in a dream world.

I don't support what the McCanns have done and their actions since and I have my suspicions about their involvement and I think there is a lot we don't know yet about information they have held from the police.

But all that said and done I (and I'm sure everyone else on here) would like nothing better for that girl to be reunited with her family but it is looking less and less likely to happen every day.

Social services won't take the kids into care over this but I think they should get in touch with the family and offer any parenting support and advice they need as they seem a bit lacking in common parenting sense.

Don't assume I am a nasty person because I openly discuss a news item.

Well I'm part of the "anti McCann" mob (who came up with that ridiculous phrase anyway?) but I have said all along that I don't think they should have the kids taken off them or go to prison, because as you said, that wouldn't change anything or be good for the children, and as someone who has put Madeleine first all along, to say otherwise would make me a hypocrite, which I'm not. I do however think social services need to keep an eye on them for a while, because they shouldn't get off totally scott-free, but losing their children again is a bit much.

I am not a McCann fan by any means, but I dislike the term 'Anti McCann'. I am anti their behaviour, both on the night of the abduction and subsequently.
IF Madeleine is found, SHE would probably want to be reunited with her parents and siblings, and I would want that for her. I would be happy to leave them alone, and rejoice in the fact that the little girl was where she belonged, BUT I would have some concerns that I would like to see addressed.
Given that the McCanns have never publicly (or even privately, if Gerry McCann was telling the truth in his interviews) admitted responsibility or guilt for their contribution to her disappearance, then I would want a psychological assessment on them to determine that they do have some insight into their behaviour, and therefore recognise their wrongdoings. This would be important in preventing recurrences of this type of behaviour in the future, i.e. thinking it's ok to leave your three tiny children 100 yards away in an unlocked building, out of sight and earshot, with no way to know what's happening.
I understand they're probably been coached by their solicitors and warned not to implicate themselves, but parents who are capable of clouding the issues to make themselves look better, and who will tell downright lies in an effort to cover their backs are questionable parents, at best. They are putting their own interests before their missing child, and I would not be comfortable that they have learned serious lessons in the way most people would.
I would also want some type of intervention from social services on an ongoing basis for a while - say a year or two. Regular checks to ensure there are supports in place for Madeleine, the twins and the parents, in the form of proper childminding, regular contact time between parents and children, and counselling for all. The counselling would be important for the parents to explore their actions, the consequences of their actions and their accountability for their decisions.
I have never suggested their children be taken into care, I don't think that would be an option, but they could certainly benefit from input.

Pro or Anti McCann should not come into it. Surely it is about accountibility. We should be accountable for our actions. Regardless of the outcome of this case - and things are not looking good unfortunately, then the parents are accountable. The law states if a child is left alone and harm occurs to that child then both child neglect and child cruelty charges can and should be levied at the parents. The law should also not discriminate between 'Tracy Towerblock' and the McCanns. Taking away other children is not an issue - the issue is the parents failing the missing child. I feel desperately sorry for Madeline, but I only feel contemptuous towards the 'circus' that has spawned form this.

As for the happy family - they had the chance to be that - that has gone forever - regardless of the outcome. I have seen many happy families - all eating together. I have also seen happy families use baby sitting services in hotels in this country and abroad. As I said it comes down to accountibility to our actions...........

If Maddy is found I doubt she will grow up to become a well adjusted adult without a fair bit of counselling. Do you think the abductor is taking her for picnics and pushing her on the swings? I've got a feeling that whatever happens she isn't going to be growing up as a normal child in a normal family anymore. I say prosecute the parents either way as Maddy will have to live with the experience for the rest of her life if she is still alive.

'One happy family' I didn't know a happy family involved 3 children under the age of 5 being left on their own at night!

Face facts - this girl would not have been kidnapped if she hadn't been left alone at night (EVERY NIGHT), while her parents went on the lash, they already knew some weirdo on the beach was taking photos of her. There was a sitter service at the hotel but they didn't want to pay out for that.

Well if that is your idea of a happy family, I really suggest you spend time around people who actually want kids, not ones that view them as an inconvenience.

And as for your 'Anti-McCann Mob' the people on here who disagree with the McCann's behaviour are usually putting across an intelligent arguement. Its the so called supporters that are doing all the name calling and threats and generally behaving with mob mentality

This is a short and simple answer. The McCanns have created the problem themselves and want the public to pay them money for doing so. Are they real.

I don't for one minute think the McCanns were right for leaving those children home alone.....but I wouldn't wish for any of the children to be taken from their parents & have to be brought up in childrens homes or with foster parents.

I was brought up myself in childrens homes & boarding schools.....I'd NEVER wish that on any child, if a child can stay at home with his/her parents, then thats where he/she should be.

I sincerely hope that the family will be left alone when all the dust settles, whatever the outcome. I have my doubts though, I have been amazed at the viciousness of some of the attacks against the parents. They made a decision that will haunt them for the rest of their lives, their lives can never be the same again. They have paid a very heavy price. Maddie has almost certainly paid the highest price of all. I wonder what motive some of the people who write such awful things have. If as they say it's disgust at how the parents behaved and they really want to see that something like this never happens again, have a look round their own neighbourhoods there are children receiving far worse treatment daily and people round them keep quiet. By all accounts Maddie was dearly loved and so are the twins. What has happened is a tragedy for all involved.
