If you hold and carry your baby alot, they should have good head control by the first few weeks to a month (some support may still be needed). By 3 months of age, you should be able to put your baby on your hip without holding their neck and head, though some back support may be necessary.
If left in a bouncy chair, swing, crib, floor, etc... much longer. I've seen babies at 7-8 months with little head control. I think the "norm" in this society is 3-5 months. But thats a guesstimate.

My son was able to do it from day 0, most babies will probably be able to do it at 3 months, and should definitely be doing it by 4-5 months

All depends on the baby's musclular strength and balance. My first took a couple of months to hold her head up b herself. My second was holding his head up the second he was born. Each child is different.

I don't know...I am wondering that too. My baby is 10 weeks old this week. She does really good..but every once in a while she will slam it into.
We go to the Dr for her 2 month shots this week...I am going to ask then.

hold on until the middle of 5th month. He or she will be still wobbly but much in control of her world. Congrats on your bundle of joy

3 months is typical for head/neck control... not COMPLETE control, but enough so you notice.
