I've been having a lot of swelling problems with my feet. They swell so much that they hurt and it feels like my skin is breaking! They are literally so fat that the look fake. I can't explain how fat they are you would just have to see them. I went to see my doctor today to have my staples taken out, I had a c-section 5 days ago. I asked her about it but she didn't even look at them and said that it was normal because of all the fluids I've was given through IV. Anyway, they are swollen to my ankles and a little above. Is it normal for them to be that swollen? They are really bad. Should I take a picture and post it that way ya'll can see how swollen they are. When normally I have extremely skinny feet?

Yes I have been drinking water. What can help the swelling go down. I feel silly calling the doctor because I saw her today and she didn't even look at my feet. If she didn't look at them then, I doubt she would be able to tell me if it's normal over the phone and not being able to see them.

Walk. That is what I was told to do. I had a c-section in february. I was hoping my swelling would go down (it was bad the last month I was preg) but I swear it was worse. Don't just sit with your feet up. I would walk a lil each day. If I sat too long they hurt and seemed worse.
It was 2 weeks before my feet/legs looked the same as when I got preg.
The swelling has to do with extra blood supply for the baby and from extra toxins in your body from the meds you were given during/after surgery. It takes time for them to be eliminated and for your blood supply to return to what it was.
Congrats on your new baby btw!

They will go down soon. :)
I had the exact same thing.... twice. With both of my c-section deliveries my feet swelled up something horrible! But all you can do is sit with them elevated as much as you can (5-days after giving birth you should be doing mostly resting as it is!). Keep drinking your fluids and resting... that's all you can really do..... They will start to get better soon! I know with my son (second child) I wondered if they would *ever* go down.... but they eventually did! It's normal.... try to relax...! :) And... congratulations!

I had that after all 3 of my c-sections, especially my last one, because I was in the hospital for 2 days before they decided to do a c-section. I was given 15 bags of fluid over 3 days. My feet and ankles were so swollen they felt and looked like they were going to pop. It was so bad my husband kept telling me I had cankles! Best thing you can do is drink water, and keep your feet elevated as high as you can get them.

It sounds like you may be moving around more than you should. Stay off those dawgs, woman! Here's what I'd do. Stay off your feet, with feet ELEVATED for as much of one 24 hour period as you can... keep drinking your water.. and watch your salt intake during that time. If it's not better the next morning, then call the doctor's office and make another appointment... if they won't see you, go to the ER or the drop-in clinic... (my HMO uses a drop-in clinic for things like this... it's GREAT!)
C'mon... in another month you'll be betting for an excuse to stay off your feet... do it while you can!! *hugs*
How's our little darling doing? (Besides the utter mortification of having a mom with swollen ankles, of course... ?? :)

Are you/ have you been drinking enough water. I had that problem while I was in the hospital, and the nurses kept giving me water. It seemed to work. You should call the maternity ward where you delivered. A nurse should be able to help if not, there is a Dr. on call.

you need to move around more. the fluid will continue to pout down your body until you drown from inside. get up and move and move often and see your regular doctor not the obgyn. call your primary doctor first thing in the morning. in the meantime walk walk walk and cut out all salt too your retaining fluid this is common after a c- section

Sorry mom. Just keep your feet elevated as long and as often as you can. Stay off your feet --- rest.
I hope you have help.
Things will look better in a day or two. Hopefully in one day.
Good luck and good health.
