Can anyone work out in detail : x+h over x+h+1 minus x over x+1, all this over h. Also: sq rt of x , minus 1 over 2 sq rt of x, all over sq rt of x. This is from College Algebra, A Graphing Approach, 4th Ed. Thank you

( (x + h) / (x + h + 1) - x / (x + 1) ) / h =
( (x + h)(x + 1) - x(x + h + 1) / (x + 1)(x + h + 1) ) / h =
x(x + 1) + h(x + 1) - (x^2 + hx + x) / h(x + 1)(x + h + 1) =
( x^2 + x + hx + h - x^2 - hx - x) / h(x + 1)(x + h + 1) =
h / h(x + 1)(x + h + 1) =
1 / (x + 1)(x + h + 1)
Expanding the denominator does not increase clarity.

( (√x) - 1/2√x ) / √x =
(√x) / (√x) - 1/2(√x)(√x) =
1 - 1 / (2x) =
(2x - 1) / (2x)
