Dear NBA fan,
i think if Shaq had stayed in L.A. his NBA career might be over by now. First of all most people forgot that he lost 50 lbs when he went to Miami and had some serious knee injuries that sidelined him for much of the the past two seasons. i think losing that weight might have saved his career because the man is over 320 lbs.
People say that Shaq won without Kobe but if you watched the Miami series, they won because of D. Wade and Alonzo Mourning's defensive and heart was a bigger factor than Shaq.
Had Shaq stayed, i think with Kobe and Phil they would have definitely had another shot. But as you can tell Shaq has slowed down a lot and you wonder how many years he truly has left.
It's also interesting that everyone says the Lakers declined because of Shaq's departure. But what about the departure of other players? Losing B. Shaw (to retirement) and Fisher to free agency (wouldn't you love to have either of those guys instead of Smush Parker?) And Losing Horry and Fox (Free agency and retirement) as well i think contributes to the Lakers recent woes as well.
It's a tough what-if because one thing about Shaq is that he only plays when he's "motivated". All career long in respones to his terrible free-throw shooting is i make them when they count. (Don't they always count???) i think when Shaq wanted out of L.A. he had no motivation to give 110%, when he left he had a chip on his shoulder and you saw him trying and giving an effort that L.A. fans hadn't seen in years. Don't get me wrong- i love the Big Fella and he helped us win 3 championships- but he never was the hard worker he needed to be. He never got into the kind of shape that would have made Dr. Buss take the chance to sign him to a longer deal.
Those are my thoughts. Kindly,
Nickster

People think that kobe was the only reason why the lakers broke up... It was both their fault... But what can we do... Whats done is done... if shaq came back... it would just make the lakers more of a disaster since shaq only played a few good games this season and never really produced to win games against chicago.. Wade is no better than kobe.. wade just wins because shaq is with him and the same time that kobe wins championships with shaq... no one person alone can win a whole championship because its a very long process... Look at it... without lebrons team mates like Gibson he would have a harder time winning the series... without his teammates he couldnt reach the playoffs.. its about the team and chemistry.. i guess that the lakers if theyd have shaq now would never win a championship nor reach the western finals...

I don't think so. Shaq has slowed down so much in the last few years that teams like Phoenix, Golden State, and Utah would have destroyed him running up and down the court. The Lakers would be much better than they are, at least, on paper, assuming Shaq and Kobe wouldn't kill each other. Shaq can only be counted on to play about 25-30 minutes a night, and he will also take off a third of a season each year because of the next "injury".

Yes, as long as the rest of the guys (Kobe, Odom, Kwame, Luke, Smush, Farmar, Turiaff, etc.) stay. If, for instance, Odom and Kwame are traded for Shaq then it won't do any good. Shaq is fast declining, and he and Kobe wouldn't be able to bring back to glory years. They would need plenty of support now. Still, Kobe and the Lakers will be better off with Shaq.

It's too late. If Shaq/Kobe/Phil had resolved their differences 3 years ago, they could have won at least 1 more. They probably should have beat Detroit the year before they broke up if not for two things: 1. If Karl wasn't injured 2. they should have never signed Gary Payton

Nope. Shaq is not as good as b4. He is really slow and injury prone. It is hard for Lakers to have a shot unless lakers make some tradings. The present lineup just isn't good enough to aid Kobe.

depends from the chemestry with kobe. remember the last season they played together. it was like a dream team with gary payton and carl malone and they still managed to blow it somehow... so chemestry is fondamental in any team sport...sure it looks nice on paper but kobe is very selfish and i beleive he was the cause for the terible break up that the lakers had.... by the way i am a spurs fan for life so fogive me even though my words are from my brains, my heart is happy that lakers broke up because the spurs have been dominant ever since..... but then again i would like to wish the lakers the best of luck and hopefully get back to contender levels. maybe get rid of kobe because he is too selfish ......

communicate down on the Lakers now whilst u nevertheless have a wager. Their roster this year is in simple terms common sick. as much as i think of Kobe's a wealthy little brat, I certainly have the Lakers or Boston to win all of it this year. Sorry Stevie Nash ;(

if the lakers would have the same supporting cast (lamar odom, luke walton, kwame brown, smush parker and andrew bynum) they might.. given that brown can slide down to his original 4 spot, lamr odom will always have the advantage at the three spot.. plus a bench concisting of bynum and luke walton might do it.. plus bynum could learn a lot from shaq and may further hasten his development

nope....kobe and shaq aren't enough anymore....especially with shaq getting old and injury prone....they need better teammates than the Lakers' current players....maybe if they get jermaine as well, then maybe they have a shot....otherwise, they're going to need their old players back as well such as fisher, rice, fox, walker horry etc....
but realistically, i don't see them making it work right now....
