Why is Marijuana illegal and Tobacco and Alcohol Legal? I find most people that drink act worse than those that smoke pot. Not to mention all the benifits of the Hemp plant: Clothing, paper, rope, etc... what are the benifits of alcohol and tobacco besides getting people laid?So many studies need to be done on marijuana, The benifits are way more than most plants. Why does or government ignore this? Are they afraid of being wrong or is it all just a conspiracy...Let me know what you think!

Ahh... but marijuana does have benifits, helps nusea, helps pain, and helps people regain appetite. what help is tobacco? I'm thinking that the government knows more than they lead you to believe. Here's a link that you may find interesting...

And one more thing, If you look at Wikipedia, it will tell you all about the religious uses by almost EVERY major religion used way back when, So why is it all of a sudden bad? I know many people that would be overly pissy WITHOUT pot, I don't wanna here its because of pot because thats BS, I was close to killing myself but I tried it and I realized how rediculous that idea was... Tell me that pot isn't helpful...

I'm glad for the input! keep it up! anywho, The Taxes thats why there is such conspiracies of the Government behind all the trafficking, they get money from buying and jailing... makes some sense, huh? Also, I was reading something about that a jury has the power to acquit a person even though its obvious they're guilty. and thats part of how alcohol became legal again..not a bad idea....

Hi. I just want to say that I agree with you. I have often wondered that myself. I cannot see anything logical about how alcohol is legal and marijuana is illegal. I just don't see the logic here. I don't smoke pot or anything else for that matter. I also don't drink. But from everything I have seen, heard, read and experienced, clearly, alcohol is by far the more dangerous of the two. Thank you.

I don't necessarily believe the following, but here are some reasons:
-the whole "gateway drug" issue a lot of people seem to believe. If pot is legalized, what is next?
- until there is a way to make a test on people smoking pot and driving, it won't be legalized for safety reasons.
-it would be a logistics nightmare. How much is okay to drive? What would the cost be? Who would be allowed to grow and sell?
Im not sure where you live; Im assuming you are in the U.S. In British Columbia it is now legal to carry a certain amount for personal use. (Im not sure how much, as I don't smoke it and I don't really care.) As long as you are not selling or growing more than for personal use, you are basically left alone. It is also approved for medical use. Im pretty sure, but could be wrong, it is perfectly legal to buy and use hemp products - clothing, rope etc. (based on the fact that there are stores in my town which sell products as well as paraphanalia (for collectors of course! not for users! *wink wink*)
If you want more benifits, think of the taxes that could be applied if the government regulated Marijuana. Cigarettes, tobacco and gasoline could pay off most small countries debts within a year or less. Why not add Marijuana.
Either way, I don't think its really a conspiracy, I just think no one wants to tackle the issue. People are going to smoke it anyway, so why bother to ruffle the feathers of those groups against legalization. People smoking more than occasionally aren't usually the ones making election contributions to political parties (with the exception of Canada's Green Party maybe) and social programs etc. anyway.
P.S: Alchohol hasn't always been legal...

believe it or not marijuana is not illegal in all circles of society. However, in our society, in general, it is consider an illegal substance due to the hallucinagenic effect it has on the brain more than anything else. That is why it illegal for the most part. however if you could claim native american status and prove you are at least 1/16th native american and you live ona reservation you could possible have an arguement as to the benefits for the purpose of using it for spiritual purposes. in the anglosaxon society we live in though and as a part of the general community it is illegal to use, possess, or distribute marijuana as a precursor to the use of other illegal substances. that is the main purpose of keeping it on the illegal substance list by the government. not to mention the governmenthas not figured out a way to tax it like they do alcohol or tobacco. once they can figure that out and regulate it then believe me they will drop the illegal status of it rather quickly. however the quantity you possess determines the illegality of it. some states state that less than an ounce determines that it is a misdemeanor and others will consider possession of it strictly as a felony. I would suggest checking your local state laws regarding the illegality of it. for me personally it has done nothing for me except make me hungry when I did it many years ago so I found no benefit in smoking it or chewing it or baking it into brownies. good luck on your search for an answer that you can be satisfied with.

It doesn't quite make sense other than it's a historical thing. Tobacco and alcohol have been legal for a long time. I guess it's felt that society shouldn't legalize another "dangerous" product. It must also be noted that alcohol in small to moderate amounts is actually a health benefit, which is not true of pot.

Someone said it already... " The government dont get sh!t!" This is why it is illegal. How do you tax and legislate a plant that can be grown in any garden? Same thing with tobacco and booze. Thats why its illegal to grow it and brew it! They keep all of us good and scared, like pathetic sheep. You must always live in fear of something for this to be happening!!!After all... If it not the war on terrorism, then its the war on you!!! " THE WAR ON DRUGS"
My suggestion is... Everyone who smokes, shoud grow!!! How many people can they put in jail before we put them in jail.

'cause lawmakers do not know how one feels with marijuana, but have a taste of tobacco and alcohol.
Once they taste marijuana, even that will be legal!!!
If you think making something illegal is done in social interest, you are grossly wrong. These are the law makers' personal views!!!

they haven't figured out how to TAX it. When people can grow their own supply in their kitchen window box like a herb. Tobacco can't be grown anywhere like marijuana, and marijuana is a lot easier to grow than making their own alcoholic beverages.
