The only band I have ever heard of that continued to play while the ship was sinking was the band on the Titanic, which was actually two bands.

From your question I infer that you are wondering if there is some seaman's rule about this, and there is not, that I know of, which is why such a big deal is made of the Titanic band. They all died, you know.

The person who quoted the "we are dressed in our best" thing is quoting a passenger about himself and his valet. The band did not say that.

If you are all men in the band and the ship (unlike the Titanic) abandons women and children first, what else could you do with honor? Yes, I would continue playing because if you are in a band, then more than likely, that is where your soul has chosen to be and that would be the last thing in this life you would want to be doing. If you are a man and a coward, you would grab a child that is lost and say it is yours and abandon the ship. Whatever you do will have to leave you, and your loved ones, to remember forever, because large ships going down usually make history.
