My wife has the same problem. You need to pass the USMLE first. After that, you have to apply for residency at the hospital, and it is very competitive; not to say that passing the USMLE is hard itself. Some may volunteer to work in the hospital free to show their sincerity. If you are lucky to get the residency, only after 3 years you can practise like the other doctors. Anyhow, it is very hard. One of my friend whose wife is a medical doctor from China, and my friend is the Technical Manager at Motorola...see what happened to his wife after the struggle...the wife enrolled in account program and switch line to accountancy. I am not discouraging you...but the US system is tough...so fight hard.

As Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degrees are generally regarded by the awarding universities as undergraduate non-doctoral degrees, strictly speaking they do not in their own right entitle the holder to be called Doctor.

in the us you will need the doctorate, an internship, and a residency.
