for the past 2 yrs. ive had very thick whitish, yellowish discharge. i got my period 1 yr. ago and had this discharge for about a yr before i started. it almost never smells but sometimes it does. when it smells, it kind of fishy. i always thought it was normal and would go away soon after i got my period but it hasnt. everytime i go to the bathroom, there is a ton of it in my underwear and i dont think there should b this much. is this normal to have a ton of very thick, stringy discharge?also, my periods are pretty heavy and irregular, with really bad cramps and backaches. is this related?

Its normal.... especially pre an post menstruation.... however since you do have a 'ton' of it and suffer from irregular periods it may be becuase you diet and lifestyle isn't healhty. Even if you aren't overwieght your eating, sleeping and workout patterns could be inconsistent and unhealhty.. I Dont have to tell you wats healthy right? especiialy around your period eat healthy and your period will become consistent when you work out.. trust me, working out made my period less painful as well! give it a try...hope i helped hun!

If it's stringy and clear or white around the time of your ovulation, that's normal. If it's yellow or smells bad, that's a bad sign. Go to the doctor, it may be a yeast infection, but you should be checked out. The heavy periods that are irregular might be something else but you should also tell this to the doctor. See a gynecologist, preferably a woman.

*Thick, Goopy discharge* for as long as you have stated, is NOT *normal*. I am a nurse, and if you were my patient, sister, or daughter I would suggest that you go to see an OB/GYN as soon as possible. FYI - A *fishy smell* is a bad symptom - get to the doc!

A fishy smell means infection probably . You need to see the doc and get this treated.
