Why does John Edwards think a person can have faith-based beliefs but that its wrong to act on them.?

"He also said that he prayed every day, he sinned every day, and was personally opposed to gay marriage -- but would not allow his individual convictions on the topic to guide public policy."

i dont understand you 'born-in-the-usa'.
Your idea of a separation of church and state seems awfuly like a personal conviction. I dont think we should use it to shape public policy. ; )

Because according to the liberal ideology, what you believe is not allowed in the public square. Which makes you wonder how decisions are made then....

Well if you think about that statement for a moment you can see that acting on your faith is wrong. Look at how the Islamic extremists act out on their faith for the best example. This is a perfect example of the separation of church and state and why we need it. I commend John Edwards for his honesty and his ethics.

Edit: Thats why it's wrong to act on faith beliefs so that it doesn't shape public policy!

In a free country where your choice of religion, sexual orientation etc is guaranteed no one - even the president has the right to force his personal beliefs on the entire country or it is no longer a free country.
