Definitely. All of us must satisfy our basic needs first before others. Most people also do otherwise since they want to be accepted in a certain society.

Not everyone live the stages as define in the structure. Not entirely, as most would live barely to maintain life. As society progress to a new level of consciousness for material possessions, we are seeing a disparity between rich and poor. The lowest rung of people will never rise to reasonable in life. Not to mention the want of esteem from imaginary that never will be possible. Precisely the poor will become poorer and rich becoming richer.

There are exceptions to the hierarchy, especially in the short-term actions which we take on in our lives. Sometimes I skip meals to finish urgent jobs etc etc.

A needy pyramid for needy people.

Some of us have fewer needs. The more needs one perceives that they have the more despair and desperation they face.

Most needs on the pyramid are actually desires.
