matters on how much you drive. i have an old work truck i haven't changed the oil in 2 years. (that reminds me I'm going to do it now) but it doesn't run that many miles either. synthetic oil runs more miles than conventional. if you want to keep your engine in good shape you should change it on some kind of reasonable schedule. good luck

Nothing will happen. The oil will be dirtier than if you changed it two or three time a year.

I have an old pick up truck that only gets driven in the Winter months and I keep a pure synthetic in it since it's easier to start a motor when it's zero degrees outside with a synthetic oil. It gets an oil change every two years which is only about 3,000 miles of driving (Winter only).

I like the store brand synthetics and have used WalMart and Meijer brands as well as having experimented with the more expensive name brands. Same oil, same performance. Very good oil(s).

I know a few folks who will go 10,000 miles on a synthetic oil change and this has kept them running quite well.

Short trips and city driving is different since you may never reach operating temperature of 200 degrees and the oil will hold more moisture.

Synthetic would last longer than conventional (recommended change 10,000-15,000 mile interval for synthetic as opposed to 3,000-5,000 for conventional). The problem with not changing your oil is it gets dirty, and dirt causes wear in your engine. Also oil can really break down and end up a solid and provide zero lubrication to the engine. Which would cause damage and ultimately engine failure. Get it changed ASAP, it will save you $ in the long run, oil & filter is much cheaper than a new engine.

Depends on how new your car is, how many miles you drive and the conditions that you drive in. Dirt roads vs city driving. If you lived in a rural area with dirt roads and drive like a teenager most likely you will have engine failure due to sludge and oil starvation. Engines do burn oil, if you do not check the level and just keep driving then it will run out of oil and spin the bearings out causing failure. Much cheaper to change it.

with conventional oil it would get really dirty ,if it was synthetic oil depending on the mileage that was on it it would not hold up well at all, with the conventional oil you would run the risk of ruining a good engine,or blowing it up,either way it would do damage to it,its just not a good idea to run oil for a year, good luck with it.

If you haven't done it for a year, go with conventional. Syntetic ofers more advantages to consistently maintained motors. Lack of mainteanence accelerates wear and tear, your motor gets older faster (worn, clanky and smoke) that other with similar milage.

You mean in addition to the risk of serious and costly engine damage, breakdown and/or major failure of vital engine parts? Nothing! (I'm being slightly facetious; it's not worth the few dollars you saved by neglecting the engine's maintenance schedule if you have to replace an engine or a car!). The difference between synthetic and "regular" oil is negligible - you should still stick with manufacturer's recommendations.

For a year nothing, on either conventional or synthetic.

For conventional i'd run up to 5000/1 year, for synthetic up to 15,000/1 year.

Time isnt a big factor, driving conditions are. If you drive 5000 a year, change your oil once a year. If you drive only short trips 5000 a year, change at 3000 miles.
