Well, investing in stocks is something that is never a sure thing. Long term or short term investing both have their risks but if you have the money then you should be good. But if you are in financial debt and planning on buying stocks for a quick money gain, id advise against this. Lets start out with the basics. You have probably heard of NASDAQ and the Dow on tv every now and then. Mcdonalds would be a part of the dow. So if you were looking for big time corporations look towards the dow. I find that most of these stocks are expensive leaving you to only get a couple shares, so thats why i rather invest in smaller businesses.

I just sold off my stocks a couple months ago so i cant recomend any that i was investing in, namely because the main one i invested in just tanked due to talk of laws being passed in relation to steam cells. But if you want recomendations for stocks check out stock experts or do some research on stocks that interest you.

I highly do advise against investing in something like nike shoes just because you like how they feel. Do research on upcomming products and sales or new branches opening.

I'd look at banking stocks - Citibank and Bank of America are two good ones with a healthy dividend. If interest rates fall, bank stocks will shoot up.

Personally, I like Exxon. It always seems to go up, it pays a dividend, I understand what they do, and I see a lot of SUV's on the road!
