Good question!!! I would start with talking to Phil Jackson about a more conventional offense to attract big name free agents. It is my belief that free agents avoid the Lakers not because of Kobe, but the Triangle Offense being too difficult to learn in a short time.
Secondly, I would attempt a draft day trade of the #19 pick, and Luke Walton for Jermaine O'Neal or Pau Gasol. I would want to keep Lamar Odom. KG will cost to high a price, plus he'll be entering his 12th season in the league and you want whoever you trade for to be around for a while. KG has 3 years left at the most.
Atlanta, Memphis & Boston are looking to trade their picks. Attempt to trade next year's 1st round pick with Andrew Bynum and get their 1st round pick this year, and next season's 1st round pick. Atlanta would jump on it to get Bynum. Which would give LAL back its 1st round selection.
With a 1st round selection the Lakers are in a great position to grab Yi Jianlian who in my opinion is physically more imposing than Durant, and more offensively gifted than Oden.
And if the right deal comes for the #3 pick...take it, but the Lakers would be in the drivers seat during the draft which is better than seasons past.
Finally, attempt to sign a big name guard to work the backcourt with Kobe, but also be someone he'll respect...unrestricted free agents like....Chauncey Billups, Mike Bibby or Steve Blake. If they sign for example Billups, the starting lineup would look like this...
C - J. O'Neal
PF - R. Turiaf
SF - L. Odom
SG - K. Bryant
PG - C. Billups
Bench would be...
Jianlian, K. Brown, B. Cook, S. Vujacic & S. Parker. Chemistry would be an issue early, but with Bryant's desire to win...that problem wouldn't last long.

The first thing is wrap up the O'Neal trade, giving up whatever it takes, Odom, Bynum, or both. Keep Luke if possible, to have the core group of Kobe, Jermaine and Luke. Trade whatever's left over to get the best point guard possible. Upgrade at Center if possible, but I think the Lakers are stuck w/ Brown and probably Mihm.
Regardless, I believe the combo of Kobe/O'Neal with some decent players to round out the starting five, will be enough to make the Lakers a contender. As long as his team is competitive, Kobe will win games for the Lakers.

I would keep Kobe, Walton, Famar and Turiaf and trade for Kevin Garnett or Jermaine O'Neal and then also try to fish out Jason Kidd or Mike Bibby.

I think they sign Rashard Lewis who will be a free agent, and if possible aquire Kidd or another reliable point guard.
