The only over the counter medication approved for pain while pregnant is Tylenol (Acetaminophen). During pregnancy you need to see your doctor regarding pain medications. In the meantime Anbesol is safe for topical pain relief, as is rinsing with peroxide and water or salt and water. You may also want to try rinsing with Listerine.

Under no circumstances take Advil or Motrin (a.k.a. Ibuprofen). See your Doctor and/or Dentist they would ultimately be who would help you with the pain and/or prescribe you a safe medication.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope you get relief from your wisdom teeth.

Don't take ibuprofen without your doctors approval. It usually isn't recommended. Someone posted that it will cause birth defects but that is not true. I noticed someone else recommended chewing on cloves. It does work as a topical anesthetic but per my handbook on Herbs and Natural Supplements (by Mosby, which is what we use at work) it's use in pregnancy has not yet been determined as safe and is contraindicated. Never take anything over the counter including herbal meds or "natural" remedies without checking first with your doctor. Usually your doctor or dentist can prescribe Tylenol with codeine or something similar. These types of pain relievers are safe for use in pregnancy. I know it sounds weird but get a baby teether, freeze it and bite down on it. After all, if it is supposed to work for babies, maybe it will work for you! Hope you feel better soon.

I have the exact same problem. I do not have room for mine and it has gotten so painful. I have been bothered by mine for the past few days. I can't sleep, it even has gotten so bad that I get to the point that I can barely talk, and I can barely open my mouth to eat. I am 9 weeks and I still have morning sickness on top of it. I have been drinking smoothies and I have also drank warm water and hot chocolate. The warmth has helped dramatically. I am using baby oragel when I am at work. I talked to my doctor and he said that I could take hydrocodone for pain. Of course I have to go pick up the perscription. My doctor also suggested rinsing with warm salt water and I have tried it and it really does help. I have been rinsing with the salt water before I eat and I am actually able to eat soft things like mashed potatoes and biscuits and gravy. I hope you get to feeling better. I know you are miserable because I am.

Nothing over the counter. There are a few stronger pain meds that you can take while pregnant, such as a small amount of loratab, but your doctor should approve it and prescribe it. You are pregnant and should not take any medicine without a doctors prescription.. I'm sure if you tell your doc how much pain you are in he will be able to give you something. Good luck!

well one thing don't I don't think will harm a pregnant lady are cloves. You can buy ground cloves in the grocery store. It is good for a tooth ache, not sure though if the tooth has broken through the skin yet. It's worth a try though. Though checking with the doctor is best I think.

Tylenol is your best bet. Rinse with a solution of hydrogen peroxide and water, and use a little Anbesol.

When I had some pain issued during preg, my doctor prescribed Percocet. It is safe when you are preg. or breastfeeding.
Of course a doc has to give you an RX for it. Maybe ask your OB, or your dentist.

Tylenol is really the only thing you can take when you pregnant, withouth consulting your doctor first. Sorry.
