Oh good grief, people! Let someone who's Jewish (me) answer this! The little hat/cap that we wear is indeed called a yarmulke, or kippah, and it's worn as a sign of respect towards G-d. The Pope, as well as all the Cardinals, wear a similar headpiece called a biretta.

Sheesh, get with it, everyone!

The skullcap worn by the Catholic clergy is called a zucchetto.

All Catholic clergy are entitled to wear the zucchetto.
+ The Pope's zucchetto is white
+ Cardinals are red
+ Bishops are purple
+ Priests and deacons are black

Some think that Zucchettos go back to when clerics shaved the center of their heads into a tonsure. Zucchettos would help keep thier heads warm.

With love in Christ.

For Jews, its called a yarmulke.

If you don't have one handy during the reading of prayers, you can cover your head with a napkin or even your hand.

Women in the synagogue often wear head scarves, but being Jewish, its usually Dior or the like. Cest La Vie.

What did you expect?
