Should have put whose lead singer's appetite to self-destruct was too large...

Painful wasn't it. I believe that people who are seriously brilliant as far as music, arts, or other artistic venues go, often suffer from a form of mental illness. Almost the same way a child with autism can play the piano or paint masterpieces.

Add some childhood abuse into the mix, and they cannot deal with the fame and everything that goes with it. They appear to be ungrateful, almost angry for being famous (i.e. Kurt Cobain). I have no idea why Axl hasn't committed suicide yet. Probably too strong willed due to the childhood abuse...

I think in the 80's GnR were taken very seriously and were one of the hair bands that seemed to be in the long haul but alas the wheels fell off and it turned out to be more of a collision to watch as the band imploded.

Now, I think GnR, like most bands of the day, are trying to make money so they can make the rent. Can they reach the same success they once did? Like so many other bands - highly improbable.

Over inflated egos and the lack of passion to create great music is evident. They are just trying to capitalize on the success they once had and this is nothing more than a money grab. Rose's vocals are "shot" which is too bad for the songs that they created.

Not to defend Rose by any stretch of the imagination but a lot of groups get together to make music, they hit it big time and then don't know how to handle it and spiral down faster than they came up. They are doomed to never have another shot at success and can only live in their past glory.

I wouldn't look for GnR to be moving up the chart anytime soon or to be as successful as they once were but then again, where are all the hair bands today? Gone the way of the cowlick or the beehive.

If you are talking about the lastest version of G & R probably. How can you take a band seriously when there is no music to substantiate their fame. Axl can sing past hits but because he is no longer supported by any of the other Guns, it just ain't the same. It's sad when you're more known for the gigs you didn't show up at than the ones you actually played. Rose is a diva, and definitely is in self destruct mode.

Guns N' Roses right now is a joke. How long have we've been waiting for Chinese Democracy? 10 years? Now that's a joke.
The old GN'R was awsome, and Slash, Duff and Matt are still rocking with Velvet Revolver, but the current GN'R under Axl is a joke.

Back in the day GNR was serious band that I though had staying power. But the combo of Axl, booze and drugs were too much. Most of the band is with Scott Weiland (STP) and Velvet Revolver. I think Axl is pretty much the only one left and with release of Chinese Democracy being pushed back again and again. I think GNR is now considered a joke.

Guns N Roses was a great band in its time. But they did have a appeitie for self-destruction. But Booze and Band and throw in some drugs was the thing in that time period. But if they had not had the booze and drugs they would not have been as good. Right.

I don't think they really qualify as a "band" anymore. Mostly a cover band fronted by Axl who is pretty much a parody of himself. I remember when Appetitite For destruction came out, it was the first album I was expressly forbidden to listen to by my mum. I got a copy of it straight away, of course!

in their prime, they were a force to be reckoned with...I still look at those days and try to convince myself that the new "incarnation" or lineup of the Gunners is not a total joke

(sigh and shrug)
