Publish A BOOK??

Hi i just turned 15. My friends and i love to write. We have alot of good story ideas. If we wrote a book how could we, at such a young age, get it published. (Like the steps, the cost, ect.) Thanks Alot!!!

I image you're writing for teens. I reccommend buying a book called Book Market for Children's Writers 2007. This is a list of tons of publishers. What kind of books they publish, how many books a year by unpublished authors, etc. Also do some research on how to write query letters and or cover letters for publishers. These are musts for authors. A lot of publishers won't take an unsolicited manuscript so you really have to sell your story in the query. Many ask for synopsis' of your story too. Most publishers will ask for the first 3 chapters if it's a novel or novelette. If it's for an early reader, send the whole story. Send self addressed stamped envelopes for replies.

A real publisher won't ask you for money. You will either get a flat payment or a small percent of the total sales. For first time authors it's around 3%.

Get a copy of Writers Market 2007 and study it.

Also try going to Resolved Answers here, searching keywords publishers and publishing and printing out a lot of answers to read.

There isnt really anything you can do until you have a complete manuscript - edited and corrected - properly formatted. Pax - C

Go to your favorite publshers site and check out their submission requirements. Most reputable publishers don't ask for your money if they like your story they pay you. Good Luck

Age doesn't matter in the least. Writing something that will sell is all that matters. Naturally, you first have to write it before you can try to sell it.
