I'm 35 weeks pregnant . . and have been nauseous and haven't been able to eat (for a little over 2 weeks) but and at my last 2 week check-up (on Thurs.) I had gained 7 lbs! (that's 7 lbs. in 2 weeks!) now today is Monday and I have gained 3 lbs. more! I've gained 3lbs in 3 days and I'm literally not eating anything!! My ankles are extremely swollen.. and now my legs are swollen. I called my doctor and he said it's normal .. he said they have been checking my urine at every appt. to make sure I don't have Toxemia (or Preeclamsia) and they tested it 4 days ago and I'm fine. But I'm gaining a pound a day!! Is that normal? Has that happend to anyone else???
thanks!

At this stage, your baby is really packing on the weight.. until now, all energy went into organ development and formation. You are also retaining fluids, which can easily happen in pregnancy. Try to rest your legs for 5 min every hour by laying on your bed or couch, but do NOT raise your feet above your head height.. it can induce labour. I retained lots of water and on great grandma's advice, ate a boiled parsnip every day. It works.. parsnips are natural diuretics, they draw water out of your system. But don't overdo it. Stay away from water retaining things like coffee and chocolate, curries and sugar. Drink your recommended 6 to 8 glasses of water daily, as the water actually helps stop the severe fluid retention.. as soon as your body thinks it's dehydrated, it will retain more water making your legs even worse.
I gained 30 kg!! which each of my pregnancies.. thats about 60 pounds or so.. without eating anything bad or drastic, mainly fruit. My body simply retains and stores all nutrients when pregnant, an unfortunate gene that dates back to neanderthal times when fat stores were vital to maximum survival chances. I lost it all, so don't be afraid.. it will all go. Your main weight gain will be fluid retention.. that will all disappear after giving birth. Congratulations on your baby and impending birth.. relax when possible!

Your fine! the baby is gaining weight too! Thats a good thing. A normal pregnancy results in a weight gain of 30+ pounds. As long as you're eating healthy and feeling good - you're fine. Dont worry, get excited about the baby! Congrats.

Your probably retaining water. I know it sounds stupid, but drinking more water helps alot. Also, keep your feet up as much as possible during the day. Also, it doesn't matter how much you eat. Your baby will still gain weight and there are other things going on that make you gain weight. I'm sure most of the problem is retaining water, and you will loose most of that weight once you give birth.

You have to eat or you and the baby will be sick. Try some saltines and soup. If you continue to not eat and stay swollen to this extent insist that the doctor see you immediately. Like the other answers said drink water and go easy on the salt. If you have to go to the ER.

The two main reasons for the weight gain is fluid retention (the ankles are clue) and the baby. (I hate that!)
During the last trimester, the baby gains weight, puts on fat.
It sounds like that is happening.
That is definitely not you that is gaining all that weight. That baby will probably be good and healthy, with just the right amount of baby fat.

I did that too, and I did have pre-eclampsia. Plus high blood pressure.

I found that when I cut out ALL SALT, that helped with the swelling.

And have them keep on testing you. I didn't have any problems until late in the pregnancy, and I had a lot of trouble having him.

Again, no salt, no pop, just water to drink, no salty foods. Also, sit down and take it easy. Take off your shoes, make sure nothing's binding on you, just take it easy.

Is your face and hands swelling? If they are I would call your DR and ask him If you should go to the ER or come in to his office in the morning. I know they put my friend on "house rest" when she gained 5lbs in a week. I would also tell im that you really are not eating and that the weight gain is not adding up!

You are probably retaining water, which is normal in the end. It doesn't get bad until your heart can't take the extra fluid which is the preeclampsia. As long as you don't have protein spilling out into your urine, you are fine.
