I wouldn't think about this and in this way unless I wanted to feel hopeless, powerless and helpless.
The "facts" presented are merely chosen observations that lead to misery.
I would stop thinking about it.

If I had the strong academic and intellectual background I would qualify for more than harsh labor or food service jobs. But IF I was in this position, I would take whatever job I could get to start, then keep moving up or moving on to better jobs. Then I would develop a plan to change each of the other conditions that led to me being in that position.

You gotta do what you gotta do - when you're stuck in a situation like this, then you have to everything it takes in order to survive.
Consider the alternative - living out of a cardboard box, and eating at a soup kitchen (or hitting up the food bank)...
Which job pays better? Make this your first consideration. If you are capable of doing the labour (by this I mean can you actually lift what they are asking, etc.) - then go that route. And if you're better with people, then go for the food service.
Hopefully this will only be a temporary setback - and you can get back into a white-collar job in no time :)

Well I would go to the Salvation Army or a Church and ask about local emergency funds in the area or look up on line
I would take a crappy job and go trade school / or community college at night or in off hours. That way my day job would be considered temporary, And I could have stimulating conversations with people like myself.
If I was ended up homeless. I would, inconspicuously ,take showers at a college or recreational park. or if I had to, a public restroom. To keep up my appearance
And continue to be polite and considerate of others no matter who they are

I would live in a shelter, and work whatever job I had to do to save about $3000.
Then I would buy a ticket to Japan, and would complete the 88 Temple Pilgrimage on the Island of Shikoku, begging for alms, as is traditional amongst pilgrims. I would travel to each of the Ichinomiya Shinto Shrines. I would go to Dewa Sanzan in the north, and train with the Yamabushi.
I would seek the truth, and who knows- maybe I would find it.

1. Talk to the landlord, you'd be amazed how much they appreciate honesty.
2. Do whatever job to live up to what you told the landlord.
3. Figure out what makes you happy, what you are good at, and what you need to improve for either of those.
4. Look into the Rehabilitation services for where you are. and follow up on what they can help with for education and services to pursue your passions.
5. Don't fall quickly into friends as most don't live up to the friendship and could easily abuse your trust.
6. Concentrate on you and the responsibilities you promise to live up to as you go through this.

I don't have to imagine it... this was exactly the sort of experiences I went through. As hard as it was to accept, I realized that it was happening for a reason. When I stopped fighting the experience and started to engage with it, the experience quickly came to an end. When I came out the other side, it helped me understand the true nature of experience itself.

Personally, I'd go be a Buddhist Monk and spend the rest of my days trying to pursue and understand Truth, and helping others to do the same. The only responsibility that prevents me now is my girlfriend. Good luck!

first of all, i'd tell those who suggested anything to do with killing yourself to shove it
that said, one thing i've done, in tough straights, is think about the stories you hear about so called 'perfect people', who've been in desparate straights and come in on top. Then i'd think, well, if they're so smart, what would they do in MY shoes.
i've actually used that line of thinking and pulled out of some ruts
i'm not going to lie to you, it wont be easy - if you ever pray, wouldnt hurt to start this process with a prayer
good luck, and i wish you well
